well of course I mean whale-ing. Look!!!
Wonderful pictures of humpback whales frolicking off the coast near Augusta mark a spectacular start to WA's whale-watching season.
They were taken from aboard the Naturaliste Charters vessel Cetacean Explorer in Flinders Bay on Friday.
Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association chairman Clif Edwards, who was aboard the vessel, said: ``It was pretty special for them to be doing this so early in the season.
``I've been out many times and it was quite an experience. I did not expect to see them breaching, and that close to the boat.
``There were about 12 whales in the bay. We were just so lucky to see them going off. Everyone was screaming and wowing.''
Boat owner Steve Mitchell said: ``I've been here 15 years, but this was special. I've never before seen anything like this on the first day.
``You have to be excited about that. Normally, it takes a week or so to kick in.''
About 5000 to 6000 humpback and southern right whales visit the sheltered bays of Augusta each year.
They come to warmer waters to breed and raise their calves for the first few months of their lives.
