Wild Winds Hit Melbourne |
Wednesday, April 2, 2008 |
CLICK ON THE MAP TO ENLARGE The dark blue areas are the stronger winds. They have just announced that we are to get rain and hail this afternoon, and snow above 1000 ft tonight.
130km (80 MPH) plus winds are sweeping across Melbourne. Trees up rooted and cars are being buffeted. Police are monitoring traffic as it approaches the Westgate and Bolte Bridges' Light or high sided vehicles are turned back. The bridges may shut soon. What traffic there is is only crawling across. I can hear things crashing and blowing about on the next door balconies. All mums plants have blown over and around. I rescued one.
UPDATE 2:30PM Regular citizens are directing traffic. Trees are down, a roof off a factory. A highway is blocked by fallen trees and a truck has tipped over on the Ted Whitten bridge.
